6-stars-image

Yes – that’s right – there are stars to collect!

Unlike other awards which you can only add to your blog once – this award is different!

When you begin you will receive the ‘1 star’ award – and every time you are given the award by another blog – you can add another star!

There are a total of 6 stars to collect.

Which means that you can check out your favourite blogs – and even if they have already been given the award by someone else – you can still bestow it on them again and help them to reach the maximum 6 stars!

Weekly Photo Challenge: Green

I just love the Weekly Photo Challenge from The Daily Post @ WordPress.com.  I look forward to the new challenge when it is posted on Friday.  This week the challenge is GREEN!  My interpretation comes from a trip I shared with my husband to Niagara Falls.  The breathtaking views of the falls from Niagara Falls State Park where we enjoyed the American and Bride Veil Falls on the Cave of the Winds were exhilarating.  In a place where one would think to see only blue, I found a rainbow of color, especially green.  The park offers lush green pathways and a green trolley to take you from one end of the 400 acres to the other.  It is a place everyone should visit at least once.

“New to The Daily Post? Whether you’re a beginner or a professional, you’re invited to get involved in our Weekly Photo Challenge to help you meet your blogging goals and give you another way to take part in Post a Day / Post a Week. 1. Each week, we’ll provide a theme for creative inspiration. You take photographs based on your interpretation of the theme, and post them on your blog (a new post!) anytime before the following Friday when the next photo theme will be announced.

2. To make it easy for others to check out your photos, title your blog post “Weekly Photo Challenge: (theme of the week)” and be sure to use the “postaday″ tag.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Renewal

Everything old is new again!  This re-purposed sculpture was spotted basking by the barn at a Corn Maze at Treinen Farm just outside of Madison, Wisconsin.  Using old parts from cars, machines, and other items around the farm, the artist created several creatures for our enjoyment.  This one looks like a raccoon. See the eyes? It gives it away.

You can get involved in the Weekly Photo Challenge, too!  Here is how it works:

  • Each week there will be a prompt. You take a photo of your interpretation of the prompt and place it on your blog.  Do this anytime before Friday of the following week or before a new prompt is given.

  • To make it easy for others to check out your photos, title your blog post “Weekly Photo Challenge: (theme of the week)” and be sure to use the “postaday″ tag.

  • Subscribe to The Daily Post so that you don’t miss out on weekly challenge announcements. Sign up via the email subscription link in the sidebar or RSS.

It is so easy, and so much fun!  Be Challenged, Today!  :)

Born on Halloween

I was born on Halloween

when witches pay their due.

Everyone thinks I’m so mean,

but what am I to do?

My mother named me Hazel,

and makes me ride a broom.

She feeds me brew with basil,

and locks me in my room.

My nose is long and crooked.

My pet cat, Boo is black.

They say that I am wicked.

What is it that I lack?

My friends, they all are goblins,

and my father is a ghost.

My sister loves grave robbing,

and my brother loves brain toast.

I wish there was a potion,

to end this evil curse.

For I don’t have a notion,

and my life is getting worse.

So here’s a word of warning

to every child around.

If you were born on Halloween morning,

You best get out-of-town!

In honor of Halloween and my birthday, I thought I would share this poem I wrote as a teen.  There are good and bad things about being born on Halloween.

Good:  You always get to go Trick or Treating.

Bad: You always get to go Trick or Treating.

Good: No one ever forgets your birthday.

Bad: It is hard to go out to dinner when you have to be home to answer the door and give out candy.

Good: Chinese Take-out.

There are some days when I am a good witch and some when I am bad.

Happy Halloween!  Boo!

How to Make a Mountain out of a Molehill

If you wish to create a Mountain out of a Molehill simply, follow the directions below. With a little bit of ingenuity you will form a great big commotion out of nothing.

  1.  Take an insignificant occasion from everyday life.

  2. Shape it and mold it carefully until it begins to grow.

  3. Be sure to add fear, anger, and indignation to the problem.

  4. Blow it all out of proportion.

  5. Once you have successfully formed a large mountain out of a small molehill, stand back and view your creation. Wah-La!

EXAMPLE: Last night my husband and I stopped at a chain drug store for a few things.  At the checkout counter, the clerk informed us that in order to receive the sale price for the buy one get one at 50% off, we would have to use our “rewards card”.  We explained that we did not have a “rewards card”.  The clerk then told us that without a ”rewards card”, we would have to pay full price.  He also said that if we signed up right then, we could use the card immediately and receive the sale price.

My husband and I felt angry that we HAD to sign up for a “rewards card”.  We both became indignant with the clerk. My husband told him that if we did not get the sale price without the card, we were going to shop at the drug store’s competitor.  This did not faze the clerk. Clearly, he had heard this rant before from previous shoppers.

We needed the products, and we did not want to pay full price.  Therefore, I signed up for the flipping card. It took ten minutes to sign up due to a computer glitch that could not find my correct birth date.  This made my husband even more furious.  Consequently, by the time we headed to the car, he had decided that we were NEVER shopping at that drug store again.

As you can see, it is incredibly easy to make a mountain out of a molehill.  Go out and try it yourself.  I guarantee quick and accurate results on the first try.  Carpe Diem!

Remembered

When I am dead,

I hope the words etched

Above my head

Describe how I inspired others.

When they reminisce,

let it be with love

I wish to have left wisdom

in my living.

When stories are told of my antics

may I be painted the heroine.

Let them say with a hearty laugh

that I made them smile.

I pray that when I am gone,

I have left the mark of friendship.

A spark of kindness

and a bucket of joy.

I hope that people

hold me in high regard.

May my light

 shine  with every recollection.

A Lovely Touch of Reality Awards

Life has been hectic since fall began and school has started.  There are many nights when I just do not have the time or the energy to write a blog post. I think many of us “postaday” bloggers are finding it difficult to meet the goal.  Therefore, it is heartwarming to me to find that even when I am not on target, I still have people who will read my musings and even take the time to nominate me for an award.

Cher over at Authentic Photography has graciously nominated Grandmother Musings for the REALITY BLOG AWARD and the LOVELY BLOG AWARD.  Cher is originally from Maine, but has recently moved to Lakeland, Florida with her husband.  Her photos are real and reflect her keen insight into everyday life.  Please go and visit Authentic Photography. You will enjoy her unique photo expressions.

These are five questions that Cindy passed on for the Reality Blog Award and that I have decided to answer for both awards:

1) If you could change something, what would you change?

I would change all the hatred in the world for other cultures and races.

2) If you could repeat an age, what age would it be?

I would repeat at 30.  I would tell my scared self that I am powerful and worthy of great things.

3) What one thing really scares you?

Losing someone, I love.

4) What one dream have you not completed yet and do you think you will be able to complete it.

One dream I have always had is to own a house on a lake.  I think it will eventually happen.

5) If you could be someone else for the day, who would you be?

I think it would be interesting to be the President or someone else in a high seat of power.  I have a feeling it is a lot more difficult to be in that position than I imagine.

I am nominating 10 wonderful blogs that have inspired me in some way. Please take the time to visit these sites and see what makes them so great.

There are no specific rules to these awards.  Each nominee is free to accept and do what he or she will with his or her award. It is my sincere hope that with this nomination each blog will know how much I appreciate and respect their work.  This nomination is for both the Reality Award and the One Lovely Blog award.

Signs, Signs, Everywhere a Sign

It is hard to find a place where there are not signs. I am always fascinated by the signs that are posted in our world. Could we survive without a sign?
